Ormskirk Market Stall – My First Day Selling Books at Ormskirk Market

By Carl Williams (Author Carl) – author of practical books on fermentation, Indian curry, gut health, and growing food. No fads. No myths. Just books you can trust.

I recently took my books to Ormskirk Market for my first stall day. Ormskirk Market in West Lancashire is a well-known local market with a mix of food stalls, traders, and small businesses, and it was a great place to set up my own stall and see how people responded to the books in person. It was great to see people stop, browse, ask questions, and buy in person. I also had some useful conversations with other traders, which gave me a better feel for how the market works and which days may be strongest.

A good first day at Ormskirk Market

This was my first time running a market stall, so it was a valuable experience from start to finish. As well as meeting customers face to face, it gave me the chance to see which books caught people’s attention first and which subjects sparked the most conversation.

Having the books out in the open also made it easy for people to browse properly. Some visitors stopped because they were interested in Indian curry, some were drawn to fermentation and gut health, and others were interested in growing food at home.

What Ormskirk Market is like

Ormskirk Market attracts a mix of regular shoppers and visitors. Some come specifically to buy, while others are browsing. It’s a good place to see a variety of stalls, from food and produce to books and small independent sellers.

What was on the stall

I brought a mix of books across the main subjects I write about:

  • Indian curry and takeaway-style cooking
  • Fermentation and gut health
  • Growing food and practical gardening

That mix worked well because it gave people more than one reason to stop and have a look. Some knew exactly what they wanted, while others were simply curious and wanted to browse the range.

One useful thing I learned

One helpful point I picked up from other traders was that Thursday can often be stronger than Saturday for actual buying, while Saturday is sometimes more of a browsing day. That was useful to hear and will help as I plan future market dates.

What to expect if you visit

If you visit my stall, the aim is simple: make it easy to browse, ask questions, and see clearly what each book offers before you buy. You can take your time, flick through the books, and ask me directly which one is likely to suit you best.

Whether you are interested in cooking Indian food at home, learning more about fermentation, or growing your own food, I am always happy to point you towards the right starting place.

Summary

My first Ormskirk Market stall day was a positive experience. It was great to meet people in person, chat about the books, and see what drew the most interest. I will be adding future dates to the events page, so that is the best place to check if you would like to come along and browse in person.
